The Wisdom to Know When to Operate in Your Passion

Updated: May 29

Early in the series, I shared some definitions for the word ‘passion.’ Are you able to relate to one or both definitions? I have been able to relate to both. Over the years, the urge and desire to work with youth grows stronger within me like when you have a soapy water bottle that is partially full. When shaken, the sudsy bubbles form in the airy space of the bottle. Those frothy bubbles are how I imagine my desire for youth looks like. Not only are the bubbles easily distinguished from the water when shaken, but they generate outside of the water and rise above it, to be exposed and seen. That’s what it felt like when God stirred up my passion for youth. My passion began to fizz more and more inside of me. Like the bubbles rose above the water in the bottle, so did my passion ascend above other aspirations that I had been contemplating at that time. What passion has been bubbling up inside of you?

Is It Your Season?

With the fizzy feeling at work in me, it was confirmation that it was my season to work with youth. I first noticed the intensity of the passion in 2016. After I served in the Pre-K ministry at my church home on Sundays, I would be overjoyed in reminiscing on the fun the kids had, how precious they were, and how I loved teaching and caring for them. It was such a pressing feeling, and I didn’t understand it at first. Sometime later, I was approached by the church administrators at the time who had asked me if I wanted to lead the Nursery and Pre-K ministry. I was completely surprised and told them I would have to pray about it.

In my time of prayer, I heard the still small voice of the Spirit of Counsel tell me that the leadership role was the reason behind the overwhelming desire to work with youth. With that, I received my confirmation to accept the role and I’m still going strong. How did you know when it was your season to operate in your passion?

Resistance In Your Season

Leading the ministry, serving more, and connecting with parents were fruits of the passion I was operating in. Then the Spirit of God led me to start a childcare business in 2020. In preparing to do so, I thought it would be a good idea for me to get my CDA (Child Development Associate) certification. As I started to do research, I would literally feel a tugging within me so I stopped researching. Months later, I decided to look back into the CDA, but it was not sitting well with me so I asked the Lord, “Should I move forward in getting a CDA for my childcare business?” That still small voice told me no. So I asked, wouldn’t it benefit me to get this for the business and possibly for the children’s ministry I am serving in? He said no again and explained that He did not want what He has downloaded in me to care for children to be tainted by what the world says is the way.  He said to keep following His way because He is the way. That was enough for me. I have not looked back at a CDA since.

Passions have Seasons

Following the counsel of the Spirit of God, helped me to have a strong season in my childcare business. So much so, that I had to put the business on pause temporarily due to the demand for services, because my availability was limited. I obeyed the direction of the Lord to pause the business and focus on starting the girls' outreach program, Created For Greatness. It was established in 2022 and formed as a non-profit in 2023. Giving back to the community has been a blessing to me as well as the youth I am serving.

I shared in the last post that I had to step down from the dance worship ministry last year and here I have mentioned that I had to pause my childcare business a few years ago. In doing so I have practiced sustaining healthy seasons to be effective in my passions.

How did you get to your healthy season? Was there any resistance? How did you handle it?
